January 2016 Income Report
Monthly Earnings Report:Every month I am going to lay out my income report. This is to reflect the success and failures I experience using the methods I blog about.
I have three source of income:
January was a great month! I booked a $2,000.00 in shows and the best part was that the bookings I got came in from marketing I had done the previous year.
Why That Matters
I’m a believer in doing the hard work up front. If you are writing a blog, building a website, selling a service, whatever it is you should do the hard work up front. Why? If you do all the hard work to get started at one time you can automate your success.
I made $2,000.00 this month as an entertainer without spending a single dime. I didn’t do mailings, internet promotions, heck I didn’t even send out emails! People contacted me and booked over the phone because I set up a system a year ago and they were funneled into it.
I am excited for this month because the $2,000.00 I booked finishes out a touring season. What that means is that I have booked an entire season and no longer have to promote or reach out to secure dates.
How Did I Do It?
I was able to book an entire season months before it starts because I used a system. In my Freelancers Insider List I detail exactly how I to do this and much more. If you haven’t already joined you should!
Another Systems Win!
January was a huge month for my shop. I did over $7,000 in profit! I did a much larger number in cash which I can’t disclose this month because of privacy issues surrounding two of our clients.
What I can Tell You.
Brick and Mortar businesses need automated systems to stay afloat. You can’t open a shop and hang a sign and be in business. I don’t care if you run a bakery, sell insurance, you’re a lawyer or my business. You need connections and quality service.
How I Find Connections.
To be successful in business you need to cultivate relationships with people that can benefit you. I did well this month because I have been working on two major relationships and they finally paid off.
Feast And Famine
February will be a slow month compared to January. It’s the truth. My business works on the feast and famine principal. What that means is that there will be times where I will be working non-stop and times where I will have no work at all. The purpose of setting up systems is to increase the periods of feast and lessen the periods of famine. This month I accomplished that.
I’m sure this is what most of you read my income reports for! Well this month I had three major wins!
Win 1) I booked my largest at one time contract! I sold a client on a fixed price proposal for the most I ever had.
Win 2) I secured three projects off one small project. Normally I don’t like project fishing but this one paid off. (product fishing is where you take a small project on the chance it will generate more business from that client.)
Win 3) I booked three coaching students off the blog!
January was a busy month for me online! I really dug into my Upwork profile. I redesigned it and got a lot of invitations to send proposals for private projects. One of the private projects responded and I booked my largest client EVER.
My project fishing went well to. Normally I don’t suggest wasting time project fishing. You spend a lot of energy and if you don’t get a client to book you regularly you have wasted your time. I had a good feeling about the client and decided to follow through with it. Wow! It really paid off.
Finally I have started having people request consultations with me to help in their online business and freelancing. I offered them a free twenty minute consultation thinking,
‘They probably have one issue they need fixed and we can do that quickly over Skype’
Turns out they wanted coaching to help them transform their online businesses. We agreed on a rate and I increased my monthly online income this month to,
January was my lift off month! I know going forward not every month will be like this.
* I know the shop will not do that well every month.
* I know my bookings will fall off because I filled my touring schedule.
* I should be able to grow my online income from Upwork.
* I can’t rely on students to initiate contact with me for coaching.
So what was the key takeaway from this month! Use systems! Systems I had put in place months prior finally paid off and because of that I had a HUGE month.
You Can Have a Huge Month/s!
You can accomplish this to. It isn’t hard. Think about where I will be in a year if I keep putting in systems? What if my average was $12,000 a month? Do the math. That would make my year come out to be $132,000 a year (more than that because of the shop’s expenses but you know, net vs. profit).
That’s a big number! Let’s say I kept at it for two years, three! And consider that every year I am learning more, adding more value and increasing my reach.
