Success Habits You Should Master:
Do you avoid doing certain things because they frighten you? As a freelancer you can lose a lot of work this way.
I did. I was frightened of stepping on The Scale.
I used to weigh A LOT (almost 400 lbs). Stepping on the scale freaked me out.
I hated it. The scale reminded me how big a failure I was. Then something changed. (Change how you charge and earn more. Here)
Cut to Last Week…
It was Monday and I was about to do something I do every week.
I stepped on a scale.
I looked down and did some mental math. “One hundred and seventy.” I said to myself.
I had lost 170 pounds since I started my weight loss journey. I went from weighing nearly 400 lbs to 230.
What’s even crazier was the day before I ran and completed the Chicago Marathon.
I went from struggling to walk to running one of the five most popular 26.2 mile races in the world?
Want to know how I did it all without the aid of special diets, crazy workouts, dangerous pills, or expensive prepared meals.
Simple. I created Success Habits. (Want Lasting Success? Join my Freelancers Insider List. Here)
What are Success Habits for your freelancer career? Read on.
You ever wonder how someone runs a marathon? It’s not about a body type, genetics, chiseled abs, or a skinny runner’s body.
You complete a marathon by creating simple, easy to follow habits. Successful freelancers do the same thing.
Habits matter. Why? Habits reduce decision fatigue. I ran over twenty miles every week during the last twelve weeks of training. Willpower didn’t get me to run those miles, habits did.
Habits make it easy to do things willpower can’t.
You can’t willpower your way to winning in the long term. You want to run a marathon, become a successful freelancer, and earn the freedom from the boardroom and the 9-5 (and do it in months instead of years)? You need success habits.
Ask yourself this:
Do I have a pattern or system to follow for getting clients, following up with clients, billing, getting testimonials and securing referrals?
-You probably don’t.
Don’t worry you will soon! Most people don’t have success habits because they are trained from an early stage that success is something you react to.
Here’s the truth:Lasting success isn’t reactive. (Want to Master Success? Read Here)
Success-the kind that leads to six figures, being able to travel whenever and wherever you want and secure a rich life on your terms-comes from following habits.
Success habits remove the distractions, concerns and anxieties we deal with every day by giving us permission to do the least amount of work possible to secure the greatest results.
Below I have shared an easy to follow two step system to create success habits.
The 2 Step System to Creating Success Habits

Want to get the most out of these habits? Follow this suggestion:
-Start off creating ONE habit. Don’t make the mistake of trying to create a dozen habits. If you try to create too many habits at once you’ll get bored, confused or give up.
Create one habit. Focus on something easy, master it, then move on.
Step 1)Create a daily practice:
-Want to write a better proposal? Want to become comfortable talking with a client? Want to write better? Make a daily practice of CANI.
What is CANI? It is an acronym for Constant and Never Ending Improvement.
Every day you should focus on getting a little bit better than you were the day before. My focus right now is strategies. I want to create better more profitable strategies. To accomplish this I devote thirty, distraction free, minutes to reading about, taking notes on and studying how to create profitable strategies.
Pick a practice you want to be better at and focus on improving in that one field.
Bonus:Highly targeted improvement often reveals shortcomings and weakness in related areas. Take notes when this happens. These shortcomings will lead to future practices.
Step 2)Minimize resistance to your daily practice:
-I trained for thirty weeks to run the Chicago marathon. That was the longest I have ever trained for an event. I knew it would be hard to stick to it (even with an Alpha personality like mine).
I decided to create a routine that removed all distractions and barriers when it came time to run.
I made sure that all my gear was in one place, my water and electrolyte pills were ready..
Removing opportunity for distractions meant it was easy to keep on track. When you run twenty to twenty five miles in three days you’ll jump at any chance to call off a run. By removing those chances I was able to meet my daily mileage and ultimately finish my race.
You want to succeed as a freelancer, business owner, writer, or entrepreneur? You need to create habits that removes distractions, unnecessary decisions and keep you on track.
Start by creating one success habit this week. Follow this habit for one week. The biggest results come from the smallest adjustments.
